Cancelled: The Wonders of Summer in the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve Forest
Location: Registrants will be informed of location
Docent: Brian Morgan
Take a stroll along summertime forest trails with your knowledgeable naturalist guide. Discover how a bend in the path brings you to an entirely different forest "room"...filled with new wonders to fill your mind, body, and spirit. Have a "stare-down" fest with a foraging Mule Deer family. Listen to the keening sounds of soaring Red Shouldered Hawks...yup, the noisy ones. Are they teaching their young to fly...hunt food...or just having fun - you decide. Chattering Grey Squirrel acrobats leap from skinny branch to skinny branch as they protest our visit. Spot energetic Acorn Woodpeckers as they harvest acorns from our beautiful Coastal Oak trees...preparing for a long and wet winter (what do they know that we can only guess?). Under the shade of towering Monterey pines learn about the first people and how they used the forest abundance as food, medicine, clothing, and tools. Can you identify an edible plant? How about graceful Lace Lichen...what one thing can you tell us about this beauty? Will we witness the early arrival of migratory Monarch butterflies to our over-wintering sites in the forest? Join in the fun and let's find out together!
This walk is approximately 2 1/2 miles with little elevation gain and is free and open to the public. Children are welcome with adult supervision. No dogs please. Please be aware that there are no restroom facilities on the Ranch and plan accordingly! Beware of poison oak - long pants and/or socks would be appropriate. Rain cancels.
