2025.10.16 | Spotlight on Volunteers, Weeds, and a Whole Lot of Gratitude
Invasive plants are no joke -- they threaten both California’s ecosystems and economy. That is why the California Invasive Plant Council works hard to stop their spread through education, advocacy, and coordination across the state. Each year, they also host a photo contest to shine a light on the passionate people tackling these weeds head-on.
This year, Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve (FFRP) volunteer Marvin Josephson submitted eight fantastic photos of FFRP volunteers in action. Help us show your support by casting a vote (or eight). There’s no registration required, and you can vote for as many images as you like.

(Just a friendly reminder: we’ve got eight amazing shots in the running.)
Speaking of amazing volunteers, FFRP recently celebrated its annual Volunteer Appreciation Party at Parr Wines. Nearly 100 guests gathered for a lovely afternoon featuring live music from Ron Perry, Mary Schwalbe, and Carolyn Kelly, delicious bites from Boni’s Tacos, and of course, local Parr wines.
A huge thank-you to our events dream team – Dianne Anderson, Cathleen Campe, Ellie Etter, John Nixon, Shari Robasciotti, and Jose Luis Sanchez – for organizing a truly special event and to Debbie Markham for taking pictures. This year’s celebration also marked the 25th anniversary of saving the Ranch, and the team pulled out all the stops to honor our volunteers, supporters, and members.
We’re grateful every day for the people who keep the Ranch wild, beautiful, and thriving.
