2022.05.31 | Celebrating Fiscalini Ranch Volunteers

People gathered in front of FFRP office

On Wednesday, May 18, more than 70 volunteers and supporters gathered at the Main Street office of Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve (FFRP) for an appreciation of their contributions to the Ranch. In 2021, volunteers contributed more than 3,500 hours of restoration, preservation, education, and support.

The party was a long-overdue chance for the board and staff of FFRP to show our gratitude for those who give so much to protect and restore the Ranch. Board Chairperson, John Nixon, and executive director, Kitty Connolly, gave short speeches thanking everyone. Each attendee also received a small gift, including a Central Coast wildflower seed mix.

The Events Committee – Dianne Anderson, Jan Bahringer, Jo Ellen Butler, Ellie Etter, Becky Kincaid, Susan Loganbill, John Nixon, Mary Nixon, Loree Parral, Cindy Pierson, and Suzy Siegler – did a fabulous job planning and organizing the party. These volunteers deserve extra appreciation for working during the thank you party. They were aided by Walt Andrus, Jim Bahringer, Dave Pierson, and Ted Siegler. Special thanks are due to the Sieglers and the Nixons for supplying the food and wine.

FFRP volunteers support management of the Ranch and at times work alongside CCSD staff, so we were pleased that Cambria Community Services District’s Facilities and Resources staff – Carlos Mendoza, Berto Novas, Martin Garcia, and Haley Dodson – were able to join the party.

A quote from Jane Goodall captures the spirit of FFRP’s volunteers: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” FFRP volunteers have decided to care for the Ranch so everyone can enjoy it. They truly have become a force for nature.
