2021.11.18 | Events Update from Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve

With regret, Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve has had to cancel Songs for the Season this year. With San Luis Obispo County still under an indoor mask mandate and the future uncertain, we decided it was too risky to hold an indoor event centered on eating, drinking, and singing! Although we all would love to see you, community health and safety are our highest priority. In place of Songs, we will be holding an online auction – lots of wonderful items have been lined up – in the next couple of weeks.

   More than 100 Cambrians attended Songs in 2019 and many were looking forward to it this year. Planning for the event was well along with Dianne Anderson and Cindy Pierson working hard along with a very dedicated (and organized) team of experienced volunteers. I thank them for all their work.

   We have all missed so many fun and joyful events over the last two years. In fact, here at FFRP we have had to cancel all our in-person events since early 2020, but we are hopeful that 2022 will be a better year.

   In addition, we are postponing the Thanksgiving weekend tree planting to a later date. Our trees are just too small to ask them to fend for themselves. They need a few more weeks of care and feeding to grow large enough to survive on their own. Nearly 20 volunteers around Cambria are nurturing around 300 little Monterey pines.

   There is good news, too: 2021 has been amazingly productive on the Ranch with recovery from the January storm complete, weeding and ice plant removal making great progress, school and public programs back on track, and plans for a new accessible trail and restoration nursery well underway, among other achievements. Protection and restoration of the Ranch is only possible because of the generosity of our supporters.

   Keep an eye out for the auction and the reschedule tree planting. The Ranch thrives with the help of its friends!
